Distinct started with frustration: bags that cost a fortune and gave up within a year or two. So we set out to make our own, from full-grain leather, with service to match.
Our story
A few years ago, we were fed up with the bag market.
The same problem, over and over. Sky-high prices, uninspired designs and materials that last a year or two at best. Nylon and plastic sold as 'premium', at prices where you would expect leather that lasts a lifetime. Bags promised to last forever arrived already damaged. And customer service? Let's not even get started.
We weren't the only ones. Colleagues, friends, everyone who valued quality and needed a briefcase or work bag asked the same question: do you know a brand that makes good, beautiful bags and actually cares about its customers?
To be honest, making a good bag is not easy, certainly not when you're not a bag maker yourself. But maybe that worked in our favour. We didn't know what was 'standard' in the industry, so every choice was measured against one question. We still ask it of everything we make:
"Would we be proud of this ourselves?"
Where there's a will, there's a way. We set out to change this market for people who hold quality, design and service in the highest regard. It became a journey that took years.

It started with the leather
Full-grain, naturally tanned
Chrome-tanned, suede, top grain, you name it. We chose the leather that takes the longest to make and isn't available just anywhere. With our tannery we gave it a twist of our own: free of toxic substances, soft to the touch and robust enough to last a lifetime.

Then came the details
YKK zippers, cotton twill inside
Leather alone doesn't get you there. We tested at least 20 zippers and still ended up at the gold standard: YKK, the Japanese brand trusted even by NASA to keep spacesuits closed. Inside, 100% cotton twill, durable and soft, finished with the same leather as the outside.

The Origin
A classic silhouette, finely finished reinforced seams, handles that sit comfortably in the hand and no fewer than 11 pockets inside. It became the standard for everything that followed: the cardholders, the wallets, the accessories.
Shop briefcasesWe don't make bags to impress on the first day. We make them to still impress years later, when other bags have long been replaced.

We're based in the Netherlands and run everything from here. Orders ship the same day from our fulfilment centre in Utrecht, and in the Netherlands they usually arrive the next working day.
